Biography
Garafilia Mohalbi was born in Greece and brought to Boston as a child rescued from the upheaval of the Greek War of Independence, quickly becoming a beloved figure whose dignity and grace touched the heart of every visitor.
Her short life inspired widespread sympathy for the Greek cause and a host of poems and portraits, and Mount Auburn Cemetery keeps alive the memory of the spirited girl whose overseas journey won the affection of so many Bostonians.
