George H. Ely

Biography

George H. Ely, born in 1825, was a respected Cleveland businessman whose work in trade and industry mirrored the city’s growth in the nineteenth century. He believed in the power of commerce to lift neighborhoods and invested not only in enterprises but also in the civic life that surrounded them.

Colleagues remembered him for his steady integrity and the hands he lent to charitable causes, always keeping the welfare of Lake View’s community close at heart. He was interred at Lake View Cemetery, where his contributions to Cleveland’s prosperity remain part of his enduring remembrance.
