Biography

George Leland Dyer’s naval career encompassed service at sea and in the administration of the young U.S. Navy. Rising to the rank of officer, he was involved in improving training, readiness, and the welfare of sailors during a time when America was expanding its presence on the world’s oceans.

He returned to a quieter life shortly before his passing in 1914, leaving behind a reputation for thoughtful leadership. Arlington National Cemetery now preserves his resting place, honoring the many years he devoted to maritime service.
