George William Curtis was a celebrated author, editor, and reformer whose essays and speeches championed civil service, honest government, and the rights of freed people in a nation striving toward its ideals.
Through his work with leading periodicals and his friendships with luminaries of letters, he left a lasting imprint on American letters, and his memory now rests at Moravian Cemetery.
