Biography

Hannah Van Buren was born in 1783 in Kinderhook, New York, and became the wife of Martin Van Buren, who served as the eighth President of the United States. Though her life was marked by her position within one of America's prominent political families, she remained largely private and devoted to her family during the early republic period.

Hannah Van Buren passed away in 1819 at the age of 36, before her husband's rise to the presidency, and was buried in Kinderhook Cemetery near her hometown. Though her time was brief, she left a legacy as part of the Van Buren family's significant role in early American political history. Her memory is preserved in the historical records of New York's Hudson Valley region.
