Biography

Hector Gavin was a skilled engraver whose careful hand rendered architectural views and portraits with fidelity and grace, capturing the spirit of Enlightenment-era Edinburgh.

He was respected for the precision of his plates and for mentoring younger craftsmen, and he rests now in Old Calton Burial Ground among peers of the city he served.
