Heinrich Dockweiler, born in 1824, came from Germany and played a pivotal role in Los Angeles as a businessman, landowner, and community leader during the city's formative decades.

He served in municipal government, supported the growth of commerce, and championed the concerns of settlers, and Calvary Cemetery now shelters the remains of this civic-minded pioneer whose family continued his service to Southern California.
