Biography

Henry Blanchard Freeman, born in 1837, won distinction throughout the Civil War for his calm judgment under fire, especially at the Battle of Nashville, where his courage earned him the Medal of Honor. He remained a source of steady command throughout the long conflict.

After the war he continued to serve with dignity, mentoring younger officers and embodying the selfless service that continues to inspire those who visit Arlington National Cemetery.
