Biography

General Henry Ware Lawton was a dedicated officer whose Civil War service earned him brevet promotions and distinction in the Indian Wars, leading cavalry units across the western frontier with a steady hand.

He later led troops during the campaigns of the Spanish-American War and the Philippine-American War, where his courage and leadership were cut short by a mortal wound; his memory is honored at Arlington National Cemetery.
