Biography
Cardinal Ignatius Kung Pin-Mei devoted his priesthood to the people of Shanghai, shepherding them through trials that included arrests and years of restrictive confinement because of his unwavering loyalty to the universal church. Even while imprisoned, he secretly celebrated Mass and offered consolation, earning admiration for a faith that refused to be silenced.
After his release and journey to the United States, he found refuge at Mission Santa Clara de Asís, where he continued to speak for reconciliation between cultures and to remind believers of the power of forgiveness. His life remains a testament to courage in the face of persecution and to the enduring bonds between the Chinese Catholic community and the wider world.
