Biography

Tiburcio Vásquez lived a complex life along California’s edges, sometimes pursuing outlaw paths but ever rooted in the struggles of the state’s marginalized communities. He became a symbol of resistance for many, even as the law viewed him as a bandit.

He died at Mission Santa Clara de Asís, and while debates about his legacy continue, he remains a notable figure in California history, emblematic of troubled times.
