Born Israel Baline in the Russian Empire, Irving Berlin came to the United States as a child and overcame humble beginnings to become one of the most prolific songwriters in American history.

He penned Broadway hits and film scores, including "Annie Get Your Gun," "White Christmas," and "God Bless America," songs that etched themselves into the national conscience and reflected his enduring optimism.
