Biography

Cornelius H. DeLamater became a pioneering industrialist whose DeLamater Iron Works in New York produced ironclads and other vital machinery that supported the Union cause and the nation’s growing manufacturing needs.

He balanced innovation with civic generosity, supporting local institutions before his death in 1889, and his contributions are remembered alongside his resting place in Woodlawn Cemetery.
