John Baptiste Ford (1811–1903) was a visionary industrialist who transformed American manufacturing and left an indelible mark on Pennsylvania's industrial landscape. In 1883, he founded the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, which would become PPG Industries, one of the world's leading manufacturers of coatings, chemicals, and specialty materials. Beyond his business acumen, Ford was a community builder who established Ford City, Pennsylvania, as a planned industrial town to support his manufacturing operations and provide employment for hundreds of workers.
