Biography
J. S. Slauson, born in 1829, arrived in Southern California during a period of rapid change and dedicated himself to fostering the business and civic foundations of Los Angeles. He was a businessman whose enterprises supported commerce and encouraged others to invest in the promise of the Pacific coast.
He believed in giving back to the community, lending support to schools, churches, and public works so that the city’s growth would benefit all its residents. Remembered for his generosity and sound judgment, he rests at Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery.
