Biography

James Dillon Armstrong was born in 1821 and became a devoted lawyer and public servant in Romney and the surrounding counties of what would become West Virginia. He represented his neighbors in the legislature and served in judicial capacities, always striving to ensure the law served the common good.

He also cared for the land and families of his region, encouraging education and infrastructure improvements while remaining a steady presence in the community. He died in 1893, leaving behind a tradition of measured leadership at the Indian Mound Cemetery where he rests.
