Jared Sparks

Biography

Jared Sparks (1789–1866) was a distinguished historian and university president whose scholarly contributions significantly advanced American historical studies. His meticulous research, editorial work, and historical publications established him as a leading intellectual figure of the nineteenth century.

Sparks's leadership of Harvard University and his dedication to preserving and interpreting American history earned him widespread recognition and respect. His intellectual legacy and contributions to American letters are honored by his burial at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
