Jean Jacques Dériaz

1814–1890 (age 76)

Biography

Jean Jacques Dériaz, born in 1814, pursued painting with a calm determination, translating the gentle luminosity of Swiss landscapes and the intimate gestures of his sitters into oil and watercolor.

His presence in Geneva's artistic circles helped nurture a softer realism, and after his death in 1890 he was laid to rest at the Cemetery of Chêne-Bougeries, where his memory remains among the city he loved to depict.
