Biography

John Dunlap Stevenson rose through the ranks of the Union Army and proved his mettle at Fort Donelson, the Cumberland River campaigns, and in later operations around Nashville, where his steadiness and resolve contributed to turning points in the Civil War.

Following the conflict he returned to private life, cherishing the quiet of Bellefontaine Cemetery while remaining a figure of calm counsel to younger generations of veterans and civic leaders.
