John Sutter

Biography

John Sutter (1803–1880) was a pioneering spirit whose aspirations led him across oceans and frontiers, seeking to forge opportunity in new lands while upholding a deep sense of responsibility to those around him.

Reposed at Moravian Cemetery, he is remembered by some as an early settler whose endeavors evoked both the promise and challenges of America’s western expansion.
