John T. Hoffman

Biography

John Thompson Hoffman (1828–1888) rose from a legal career to lead New York City as mayor and then became governor of New York, guiding the state through post-Civil War growth and the challenges of Reconstruction.

He spent his later years involved in civic affairs and business, passing away in 1888; his memory rests at Dale Cemetery where visitors can honor his dedication to the public life of the Empire State.
