Biography
John Wesley Alstork (1852-1920) became a leading bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, traveling across the South to establish churches, encourage Sunday schools, and promote education for young people.
His energy also supported the founding of schools and hospitals, and he was revered for reminding congregations that service and learning were inseparable; he now rests at Oakwood Cemetery.
