Biography
José Yves Limantour, born in 1854, served as Mexico’s finance minister for more than a decade, organizing budgets, stabilizing the currency, and attracting foreign investment while pursuing a pragmatic vision of economic modernization.
After the upheavals of the Mexican Revolution he lived in exile, remaining active in Parisian intellectual circles and advising on matters of international finance until his death in 1935; he rests at Montmartre Cemetery, a reminder of the transatlantic ties he maintained.
