Biography
Joseph K. Mansfield served the U.S. Army through the Mexican-American War and beyond, rising to the rank of major general and earning the trust of the country he served.
He was mortally wounded while organizing defenses at the Battle of Antietam, and his burial at Indian Hill Cemetery marks the resting place of a soldier remembered for his careful and compassionate leadership.
