Biography
Benjamin Huger distinguished himself in the U.S. Army during the Mexican-American War before aligning with the Confederacy in the Civil War, where he brought experience and discipline to his commands. Known for his calm temperament, he sought to protect Southern coastal regions while maintaining the traditions of soldierly conduct.
After the war he returned to Baltimore, where he spent his final years among family and former comrades who respected his sincerity. His gravesite in Green Mount Cemetery serves as a reminder of the many loyalties tested during that turbulent age.
