Biography
Juan José Carrera, one of the most committed members of the Carrera family, took up arms as a military officer in the critical years of Chile's struggle for sovereignty. He strove to keep republican hope alive, commanding troops in pivotal confrontations and embodying the restless will of a people seeking self-determination.
His steadfast leadership in the midst of political turmoil exemplified the virtues of duty and sacrifice, and he now rests in the Santiago Metropolitan Cathedral, remembered among the patriot martyrs of his generation.
