Biography

Luis de la Carrera y Verdugo emerged from a family resolute in Chile's pursuit of independence, committing himself as a young soldier to the emerging republic. He carried the ideals of liberty into the field, fighting alongside compatriots in early campaigns that tested the fledgling nation's resolve.

Though his life was taken at a very young age, his courage and sacrifice contributed to the hopeful spirit that would eventually secure Chilean self-rule, and he was laid to rest in reverent memory within the Santiago Metropolitan Cathedral.
