Biography

Julius Pitzman was a celebrated surveyor whose vision for St. Louis neighborhoods wove together graceful curves, generous boulevards, and private park spaces, setting a standard for urban subdivisions that balanced beauty with functionality. His planning work, including the widely admired Forest Park Highlands neighborhoods, helped the city manage expansion while preserving a sense of order and charm.

Pitzman also shared his expertise through published atlases and technical writings that guided colleagues for decades, ensuring that his thoughtful approach to land design would outlive any single project. He passed in 1923 and is commemorated at Bellefontaine Cemetery, where his legacy endures in the streets that still carry his imprint.
