Kamehameha II (1797–1824) was the second king of the Hawaiian Islands, succeeding his father Kamehameha I and continuing the work of unifying and governing the Hawaiian Kingdom. During his reign, he made significant decisions regarding Hawaiian governance and culture, including the abolition of the traditional kapu system, which marked a transformative moment in Hawaiian history and society.
Kamehameha II is interred at the Royal Mausoleum of Hawaii in Honolulu, a sacred place of honor that preserves the memory of Hawaii's royal lineage and the legacy of the Hawaiian monarchy during a pivotal period of the islands' history.
