Biography

Maria Antonia of Naples and Sicily (1784–1806) was a crown princess whose brief life reflected the complex dynastic politics of early 19th-century Europe. Born into the House of Bourbon, she occupied a position of considerable importance within Spanish royal circles despite her youth.

Though her time was cut short by her early death at twenty-two, Maria Antonia's life exemplified the responsibilities and constraints placed upon royal women of her era, whose value was often measured by their potential to forge political alliances through marriage and lineage.
