Marietta Reed Stevens

Biography

Marietta Reed Stevens, born in 1827, embraced the opportunities of her era to promote learning and civic engagement among women, encouraging young people to pursue knowledge and to care for neighbors in need.

She was admired for her calm leadership and for the warmth she extended to family and friends, and after her death she was laid to rest at Mount Auburn Cemetery where her memory endures.
