Mary Whitwell Hale

Biography

Mary Whitwell Hale (1810–1862) was a woman of the nineteenth century whose life spanned the antebellum period. She lived during a time of significant social, economic, and technological change in New England, witnessing the transformation of her region and nation.

Her fifty-two years of life were lived during a formative period in American history. She was valued by her family and community, and was interred at Mount Auburn Cemetery, where she is remembered as a devoted member of her household and society.
