Biography

Meletius III of Constantinople was a distinguished Eastern Orthodox priest who served the Christian community during the Ottoman period. His long life spanned nearly seven decades of significant religious and cultural change in the Eastern Orthodox Church and the broader Ottoman Empire.

As a religious leader, he ministered to the faithful and contributed to the preservation of Orthodox traditions during a complex period of Ottoman-Christian relations. He was honored with burial at the Church of St. Mary of the Spring, a sacred site of pilgrimage and spiritual significance in Constantinople.
