Biography

Mervyn S. Bennion (1887–1941) commanded his ship with courage on the morning of December 7, 1941, remaining at his post despite mortal wounds and inspiring his crew by example.

He received the Medal of Honor for that sacrifice, and Salt Lake City Cemetery keeps his memory safe for future generations to remember that bravery.
