Biography

Nathan George Evans, born in 1824, had served in the United States Army before the Civil War, giving him a foundation of discipline that guided the regiments he would later command.

When Virginia seceded he joined Confederate forces, commanding brigades in the early campaigns such as First Manassas and later in operations across the Carolinas; despite wounds and a brief capture, he continued to serve until the conflict ended, and after a few years back home he died in 1868 and was laid to rest at Tabernacle Cemetery.
