Biography
Ninian Edwards devoted his legal training and visionary energy to guiding the Illinois country through the trials of territorial governance, serving as governor and later as a United States senator as the region prepared for statehood.
He pursued infrastructure and civic organization with the same diligence he brought to the bench, leaving a foundation of public institutions that nurtured the growing commons and sending his final days near Springfield before interment at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
