Biography

Ogden R. Reid (1925-2019) came from a family of journalists and helped lead the New York Herald Tribune before turning his attention to elected office. As a U.S. Representative from New York, he championed open government, civil rights, and thoughtful diplomacy while bridging the world of publishing and public service.

After leaving Congress, he brought that same steady judgment to diplomatic assignments and civic boards, always mindful of the importance of listening. Sleepy Hollow Cemetery holds the memory of his calm leadership and abiding respect for civic life.
