Oliver Perry Temple (1820-1907) was a lawyer, author, and advocate for reconciliation, whose courthouse work in Tennessee, especially during the Civil War era, provided a steady hand to friends on both sides of the conflict.

He documented East Tennessee's history, supported local education, and now rests in Old Gray Cemetery, where visitors recall his eloquence and commitment to healing the region.
