Orlen P. Whitcomb, born in 1831, devoted himself to Oakwood’s everyday life, whether sitting on the school board, providing encouragement at the church door, or simply answering the call when neighbors needed a favor. His steady demeanor made him a trusted figure in gatherings both large and small.
