Biography

Born in 1854 in Hachtel, Germany, Ottmar Mergenthaler came to Baltimore and soon became a force for invention, channeling his skills in linemaking and engraving into a revolutionary vision for the printing trade.

His Linotype machine, unveiled in the late 19th century, transformed newspapers, books, and the flow of information, leaving a legacy of swifter communication that endures beyond his resting place in Loudon Park Cemetery.
