Biography

Peter A. Porter was a man of the nineteenth century whose life coincided with a period of rapid change and national crisis. Born in 1827, he came of age during a time when the young American republic faced profound challenges that would test its institutions and ideals.

Porter's life was cut short in 1864, during the Civil War, a conflict that claimed many lives and forever altered the nation's course. He was interred at Oakwood Cemetery, where he rests among others who lived through and were affected by the turbulent events of his era.
