Biography
Peter Smith Michie spent his career at the United States Military Academy, blending rigorous study of engineering and the physical sciences with a steady commitment to the young men entrusted to his classrooms. He helped expand the experiments and demonstrations within the academy’s laboratories, showing cadets how principles on paper took shape in real-world applications.
His colleagues valued him for equal parts intellect and patience, and his writings on military education inspired later instructors to keep science both practical and principled. Today his resting place at West Point Cemetery recalls a lifetime devoted to scholarship and to the academy he served.
