Biography

René Gateaux was a French mathematician of considerable promise whose work contributed to the advancement of mathematical science. Born in 1889, he pursued studies in mathematics during a period of significant intellectual development in France.

Gateaux's promising career was interrupted by the outbreak of the First World War. He died in 1914, having answered his nation's call to service. He was laid to rest at La Targette French National Cemetery, where his memory is preserved among those who sacrificed their lives during the Great War.
