Biography
Rush Hawkins (1831–1920) earned distinction as a Union officer during the Civil War and later turned his discerning eye toward collecting rare books and works of art, believing culture and patriotism went hand in hand.
He balanced his military service with community involvement in Providence, remaining generous with both his time and his collections, and today visitors to Annmary Brown Memorial recall his spirited dedication to learning and country.
