Biography

Samuel Taylor Marshall (1812-1895) served his country as a military officer, commanding troops with disciplined resolve and a steady concern for the welfare of the men under his charge. His service spanned times of challenge, and he was respected for insisting upon high standards of preparedness and honor.

After he left active duty he continued to support veteran societies and to share the lessons of leadership he had learned; he is now interred at Oakland Cemetery, where visitors remember his devotion to the uniform he wore.
