Stephen Bloomer Balch was a long-lived figure of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, witnessing the founding and early development of the United States. His life extended across nearly nine decades of American history.

Balch's tenure from 1747 to 1833 placed him among those who experienced both the colonial period and the young nation's formative years. He was interred at Oak Hill Cemetery, reflecting his place in the community he inhabited.
