Biography

Stephen Decatur rose from modest beginnings to become one of the most celebrated naval officers of his era, distinguishing himself in the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812 with daring leadership at sea.

His courage and devotion to the young republic earned him widespread admiration, and those virtues are commemorated at St. Peter's Churchyard.
