Biography
Sumner Slichter advanced labor economics through rigorous research, teaching at Harvard and translating complex wage data into human stories about American workers. His books, including The Theory of Wages, guided policymakers and unions alike while he insisted that statistics must serve the dignity of both laborers and businesses.
He was a steady advocate for fairness during times of war, depression, and recovery, and he believed economic knowledge should empower communities rather than confound them. Many remember him as a thoughtful mentor and public servant, now laid to rest at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
