Biography

Thomas Augustus Jaggar devoted his career to volcanology, traveling to eruptions and founding observatories that brought scientific method to the study of volcanic hazards.

He trained a new generation of geologists, published widely, and found in Mount Auburn a serene place to remember the restless earth he spent his life studying.
