Biography

Thomas G. Stevenson (1836–1864) was a railroad executive whose career coincided with the transformative expansion of rail transportation in America. During the Civil War period, he worked to develop and manage railroad operations that were vital to the nation's economic and military infrastructure, demonstrating both business acumen and patriotic commitment.

Stevenson's contributions to the railroad industry and his service during the nation's greatest crisis earned him lasting recognition. His death in 1864 marked the loss of a promising leader in an industry that was reshaping American commerce and society, and his memory is preserved at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
